Organic Agriculture and the Farm Bill 2007 - some areas that will be addressed
1) Exemption of certified Organic Products from Assessments. If a market or producer only provides services under a National Organic Program they will be eligable to be excused from paying assessments for the national generic promotion prgrams. Organic growers had concerns about paying for a promotion that had little to do with their product.
2) National Organic Certified Cost-Share Program. This will provide $5 million to fund in the assistance for producers and marketers of organic foods to attain their certification. The producer/handeler will be redeemed 75% of the cost of the certification.
3) Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative. Research including producing data on production, development of organic agricultural products, and breeding and processing methods. $15 million will be put aside, mostly going toward government organizations and higher education.
4) Organic Production and Market Data Initiatives. Data on organic production and marketing is pooled into the mainstream data collection on all agriculture.
